Hair Accessories

Backstory  One of the best parts of this job comes when you're vending at an event and a woman with lovely thick hair spies the long hairpins and asks can she try one out? These toothy objects presuppose a certain comfortableness with one's locks, and  more often than not involve a ritual approach to arranging them. Truly, the moments between loosing her own arrangement and then twirling her locks into any number of configurations before plunging the points into the resulting knot of hair involve a remarkable display of self confidence by sharing with the public what for many women would be a somewhat private event. The payoff - when she turns her head and asks her companion, me, or whoever might be standing near, how it looks, provides a frisson both unexpected and welcomed by the lowly woodworker. It hasn't failed yet; when I see that pin nestled in a swirl of hair, I realize that is exactly what I had in mind when I first contemplated that piece of wood.

Barrettes

Barrettes seem to call out for lamination. I oblige, here combining Mahogany, Ash and Padauk.

Hair Sticks

All Mahogany with antique "Nana Buttons," these are the latest. As with many of our items, we've sold several of these hair sticks at festivals this summer without ever getting the chance to photograph them.

Brazilian Cherry (jotoba) with Polish stamp bearing the portrait of a woman. Backstory The "stroj krakowski" is a regional costume associated with the City of Krakow and is now generally seen by foreigners as the traditional native costume of Poland.

The "stamp collection" answers the question "what do you do with old stamps from a musty book when you have no intention of selling them on ebay?"
