NEW WEB PAGE - BUILDING AS WE GO!
Objects of Beauty and Usefulness Handcrafted From Responsibly Harvested Hardwoods and Found Objects
About the Company
Begun as a small producer of local pure maple syrup in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Mountain State Maple Company today produces Custom Musical Instrument Stands, turned items such as bowls, wooden Wine Stemware, and a wide range of handcrafted objects from materials (mainly hardwoods) that are often found, reclaimed, or downright rescued. We generally display at several local craft and music festivals each year, as detailed on the "Festivals and Events" page. You can also find MSM woodwork at the following fine retail locations:
Plum Shepherdstown: carries a selection of our Hair Pins & turned Earring/Ring Holders.
Grapes and Grains Gourmet, Shepherdstown: carries our wood wine stemware and turned wine bottle stoppers;
Westwind Potters, Harpers Ferry, WV: carries a wide variety of our woodwork
About Our New Website
While the site is new we are sticking to our policy of using it as an online reference only; since most of our business is done locally through shops and and craft and music festivals we don't list prices here. We have done lots of items on request, however, so if something catches your fancy in these pages by all means give us a shout.

About the Artist
In former lives I've been a Marine Officer, a prosecutor, an attorney with the Secret Service, and a home dad. As my kids got older I spent time as a volunteer, a carpenter, a maple syrup producer and fly fisherman. Since the unexpected day I first "worked" a small piece of wood into something interesting - about 4 years ago now - I've never looked back. Self taught on the wood lathe, I've since jettisoned most of the bad habits I formed as a neophyte wood turner and now teach the "Introduction To The Lathe" course at Woodcraft of Leesburg, where I am also a part-time sales associate. My studio is in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, where I live with my wife and two daughters.
